KATHMANDU, Aug 22: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) against the government’s decision to ban Telegram. Four lawyers including Monika Dhakwa submitted the petition on Thursday. The SC has scheduled the hearing for Friday.
The writ petition has made the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Information and Communications Technology and Nepal Telecommunications Authority defendants.

The petitioners have also requested an interim order to prevent the implementation of the directive and urged the court to prioritize the case.
The writ petition states that the move to ban Telegram not only violates Section 43 of the Electronic Transactions Act but also contradicts constitutional provisions and infringes on fundamental rights.
The NTA had directed the blocking of Telegram in Nepal on July 18.
