KATHMANDU, Nov 10: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) against the strike called by the anti-poll alliance of 33 parties led by CPN-Maoist.

Advocate Dhruba Prasad Bhattarai, who is also the treasurer of Democratic Lawyers Association, moved the apex court on Sunday urging the court to issue an order against the planned general strike of the anti-poll alliance of 33 parties. [break]

The anti-poll alliance of 33 political parties has announced general strike for Monday and transport strike from November 12 to 20 in its bid to disrupt the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) elections scheduled for November 19.

Stating that the strike would deprive the people of their voting rights, the writ petitioner has said that announcement of the strike just ahead of the elections is a violation of the Interim Constitution and the Election Code of Conduct, 2013 which has already been enforced by the Election Commission (EC).

CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya has been made defendant in the writ petition.
