KATHMANDU, Sept 28: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) against the CPN UML´s decision to stay neutral in the prime ministerial voting in parliament.

The petition, jointly filed by lawyers, including advocate Chandra Kanta Gyawali, states that the UML decision is against the spirit of the interim constitution and demands beginning of a new process by cancelling the ninth round of voting scheduled for Thursday. [break]

"The ongoing process of electing PM should be stopped to begin a fresh process," the petition adds.

Petitioners have claimed that Ram Chandra Paudel´s candidacy for the post of prime minister has also become void as he has failed to garner majority support in parliament.
