People in Jhapa collect relief materials of around 6 million for quake victims

BIRTAMOD, May 3: Locals in coordination with Birtamod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) Birtamod have collected relief materials worth six million rupees for the earthquake survivors.

The relief materials worth around Rs 4.2 million including cash, rice and other grains, pulses, oil, salt and others to support the quake survivors has been sent to the Sindhupalchowk and Gorkha districts, two of the most affected districts due to the devastating earthquake, said Chairman of the BCCI Balram Karki.


"We have loaded the relief materials in three different trucks for Gorkha today itself,' said Karki. The relief materials would be distributed in Gorkha on Monday, said Nirmal Bhattarai, Acting President of the NRCS, Birtamod.

The relief materials sent to Gorkha includes 1,300 sacks of rice, 100 sacks of salt, 148 sacks beaten rice, 100 cartoons biscuits, 18 sacks dalmoth, 500 sheets of tents, 305 blankets, 1,000 cartoons noodles, 272 pieces of mattress, and 100 sacks of pea. The relief support is the highest quantity of the relief sent for the earthquake survivor from Mechi zone, said Bhattarai.

Similarly, an another team led by Harkalal Giri has also left from Birtamod for Sindhupalchowk carrying relief materials worth of Rs 1.5 million.

Meanwhile, the different clubs, locals and entrepreneurs of Shanischare road section have collected relief worth Rs. 1.8 million. They sent the relief to the earthquake survivors of different districts through District Administration Office. Vice-president of the Jhapa Chambers of Commerce and Industry Prakash Siwakoti handed over the relief to Chief District Officer (CDO) Tej Prasad Poudel to be sent for the quake affected regions.
