KATHMANDU, July 17: South Korea-based Hyundai Motors is one of the fastest growing automakers in the world.

Laxmi Intercontinental -- the official partner of Hyundai vehicles for Nepal -- is currently dealing with eight different Hyundai models- Santro, i10, i20, Getz, Accent, Sonata, Tucson and Santa Fe. In 2009, Hyundai overtook Maruti Suzuki as the market leader with about 42 percent share in Nepal´s automobile market. [break]

Hyundai has been selling vehicles from its every segment in Nepal and two of their vehicles are the largest selling ones in their respective segments. Santro is the largest selling hatchback, while Tucson is the largest selling SUV in the Nepali automobile market. Of the eight models, Santro, i10 and i20 are manufactured in India, while the rest comes from South Korea itself.

Santro, the 1086 cc car is smooth, economic and has a proper design. “Santro was introduced in Nepal in 1999 and it´s doing great even today,” said Rupesh Sharma Bhatta, the senior manager for business development and planning at Laxmi Intercontinental.

The Hyundai i-series came with a bang in the market with the launch of i10. Hyundai i10 has been able to become quite popular in the market within a short span of time. The stylish car is available in four different models - D-lite, Era, Magna, Sports and Asta.

Hyundai i20 is yet another stylish car whose sale is picking up these days. This premium hatchback is comfortable and spacious yet goes through the traffic well.

“Hyundai Getz is being sold mostly through the mouth publicity. This shows how good the car is,” Bhatta informed. Though the car has not been updated with looks and specification for a few years, it is doing really well in the market.

Accent is the low range sedan by Hyundai. The sedan with a simple design is comparatively larger than its predecessor. Hyundai Sonata is another sedan which has recently been launched in the market. This premium luxury sedan brings panoramic sunroof and automatic transmission as options.

The two SUVs of Hyundai have great designs and fantastic performance. Hyundai Tucson is the largest selling SUV in the country due to these features. The vehicle is best known for well-built body and safety features.

Laxmi Intercontinental remains connected with people all over the country with 13 showrooms, including two in the Kathmandu Valley. Hyundai cars are very popular in the market due to the high resale value and low maintenance cost.
