The EC has provided the political parties almost a month´s time beginning today for the parties to register. The parties have been given until May 29 to apply for registration in the EC for the CA elections.[break]
Leaders of some political parties accompanied by their cadres reached the EC as early as 5:30 am today.
The Unified CPN (Maoist) had reached the EC first while the CPN-UML reached there after 40 minutes. The two parties had debated for which party should be registered first, delaying the registration process for some time. The registration process was started at around 11:30 am, one and half hours late from office time.
The UCPN (Maoist) leaders claimed that their turn came first for the registration arguing that the UCPN (Maoist) central committee member Bibek and Personal Aide of Vice-Chairman and former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Khagendra Devkota, were first to reach at the main gate of the EC Office.
The UML also claimed that they were first to enter the EC premises and stand in queue in front of the registration section. That is why the UML won the first chance to register the party in the EC.
Later UCPN (Maoist) Spokesperson Agni Sapkota led his party while UML Vice-Chairman, Bamdev Gautam, led UML leaders and cadres in the registration process.
The EC held a meeting immediately and later issued a notice after the UCPN-Maoist and the UML leaders and cadres had serious arguments over who was first to enroll their party for the CA elections.
The leaders and cadres calmed down after the EC issued a notice stating that the serial of the election symbol would be determined later as per a decision of the EC.
