“The chairman also assured the home minister that the party would take action against Kham if proven guilty,” UCPN (Maoist) Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha quoted Dahal as saying. “Rawal had requested the chairman to take action against Kham,” he added.
Meanwhile, sources close to the home minister claimed that Rawal met Dahal seeking Maoist´s cooperation in arresting Kham. “The party should not protect him,” sources quoted Rawal as saying.
Rawal stressed in the meeting that the government had sufficient evidence of Kham´s involvement in the robbery of Chinese traders.
According to the government sources, Dahal reiterated that Kham had not been in contact with the party and refrained from giving any specific comment. “Dahal just said ´okay´, quite ambiguously,” sources added.
Rawal also visited Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal for a briefing on the meeting.
Kham, is at large ever since he was accused of murdering businessman Shrestha two years ago.
Following a raid at his residence in the capital earlier this week, the police have accused Kham of masterminding the robbery of three Chinese yarsagumba traders last weekend. The Chinese traders were robbed of Rs 2.6 million.
