Earlier, the Department of Money Laundering Investigation (DoMLI) had filed cases against five notorious persons including Basnet at the court, charging them with amassing properties through illegal sources.
In the charge sheet, the DoMLI has accused Basnet of amassing properties worth Rs 116.1 million illegally. Basnet, who hails from Biratnagar, was previously a central committee member of CPN-UML-aligned youth wing, the Youth Association Nepal.
DoMLI has asked the Special Court to slap on them one to four years in jail along with confiscation of the illegally amassed properties and a fine equivalent to the same amount as per the Clause 3 of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2064.
