Parliamentary committee invites complaints against ambassadorial nominees for 18 countries

KATHMANDU, Aug 14: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) has invited complaints against the ambassadors recommended for 18 various countries to expedite the hearing process.

A meeting of the PHC held at the Parliament House, Baneshwar, on Tuesday initiated the parliamentary hearing process for the ambassadors recommended for 18 countries, including India, the US, the UK, and China. The committee issued a notice calling for complaints against those recommended as ambassadors within the next 10 days.

Chairman of the PHC, Pashupati Samsher Junga Bahadur Rana, stated that if anyone believes that the recommended ambassadors are not suitable for appointment, they can file a complaint with the secretariat office or the district administration office within 10 days, providing a clear basis and proof in a respectful manner.

Rana noted, "The committee will review and decide the suitability of the proposed ambassadors whose appointments are questioned. We will deliberate on this matter and finalize our decision in tomorrow's meeting."

The government has recommended several individuals for ambassadorial positions. Shankar Prasad Sharma has been recommended for India, while Shree Kant Rijal has been recommended for Australia. Naresh Bikram Dhakal has been recommended for Saudi Arabia, and Professor Dr Kapil Man Shrestha for South Africa. Professor Dhan Prasad Pandit has been nominated for Israel, and Ram Krishna Bhattarai for Sri Lanka.

Similarly, Sanil Nepal has been recommended for Spain, Sahil Rupakheti for Germany, Lok Darshan Regmi for the US, Chandrakumar Ghimire for the UK, Dr. Shivamaya Tumbahamphe for South Korea, Jung Bahadur Chauhan for the Russian Federation, Ramesh Chandra Poudel for Qatar, Professor Dr. Krishna Prasad Oli for China, and Sumnima Tuladhar for Denmark. Dr. Netra Prasad Timilsina is recommended for Malaysia, Prakash Mani Pokharel for Portugal, and Rita Dhital for Pakistan.

There is a constitutional provision that ambassadors recommended by the Council of Ministers are appointed by the President after approval by the PHC.
