“We were a group of friends from the same university who shared an interest in film, photography, art, and event promotion,” says Nawal Rai, 21, of how Parcha Productions was established. [break]
A fine arts student at the University of East London, Nawal, along with 23 year old Sameer Gurung, who is a b-boy studying business, and 23 year old architecture student Bikrant Pakhrin make up the trio that is Parcha Productions.
“We were always inspired by creativity and mesmerized by innovations,” says Nawal and explains how Parcha was really launched.
“We wanted to organize one of the biggest events for Nepali New Year because the Nepali party scene hardly existed a few years back in the UK. We felt the need to make the community vibrant and held the first event “Aunai Parcha” in April 2010. With the theme and name itself we welcomed everyone with the message of “You have to come.”
The event was hugely successful with more than a 1,000 people showing up for the event.
Then in September of 2010, the trio decided to become more dedicated and “focused on making upcoming projects a success.” It was at that time that the company was registered under the name Parcha Productions and Advertising Ltd. According to the Facebook pages, “Parcha Productions & Advertising are a brand new concept that brings together the whole entertainment and talent industry under one name. We are all about providing opportunities and first breaks. or just publicity.”
What exactly does this company do? Nawal expands, “We have been promoting creative talents from almost every field including dancing, singing, photography, fashion and painting.”
Through a range of events like parties, fashion events, photo competitions, and art exhibitions, to name a few, young talents are given the opportunity to gain experience and exposure.
This, of course, besides being fun for participants, audiences can reap some great benefits, as Nawal shares, “As a direct result of our promotion work, several of our talents have been offered work by commercial companies.”
On occasion, working with Nepalis who have already made a name for themselves in the UK-Nepali sphere, like blogger Lex Limbu, YouTube hit Nattu Shah and makeup transformation artist Promise Tamang, Parcha is a testament to what young Nepalis can do.
“Nepalis have so many raw talents and we feel that those talents should be known internationally and we are hopeful that soon they will be. So far, we have had great support and good feedback from everyone. We have some huge upcoming projects, so we need more support, love and unity.”
Parcha has created a place which functions as a creative outlet. But there is plenty of passion, dedication, and determination, so much so that the team members share, “We want our talents to progress and do something extravagant. We believe in the potential they have and would like to make their dreams come true by building a base for them. Our mission is to fulfill the dreams they aspire to. We are always willing to work with people who share our passion for creativity and willingness to work hard.”
And beyond just being able to make a name for themselves, there is a love for Nepal that is evident.
“At the moment, all the teams are Nepali and we have strong feelings and respect for Nepal and our people. Without the love and support of Nepali people, we can’t imagine being able to progress any further.”
There is no doubt that they are looking ahead, after 10 successful events in 2011 along with several online parodies, adverts and videos showcasing the talents the group possess, that they forge ahead on in the new year, declaring, “As we head into 2012, we wish to persevere to deliver what we do best – entertainment and events of the best kinds!”
