KATHMANDU, Sept 3: More than a dozen major highways and road sections across Nepal have been disrupted by incessant rains, floods, and landslides, leaving several provinces cut off and traffic operations severely restricted. Authorities say highway closures may continue for an extended period as they pose significant risk to commuters.
According to Nepal Police, the Kanti Lokpath has been completely blocked since Tuesday afternoon after a landslide struck Bhattedanda in Bagmati Rural Municipality 3, Lalitpur. Vehicles traveling between Hetauda and Kathmandu have been halted since 4:30 pm the same day. Similarly, the Kathmandu–Dhading road is open only in one direction following a landslide in Chisapani, Chandragiri Municipality 2.
The BP Highway (Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebesi) in Kavre has introduced new traffic rules to mitigate flood risks. From Tuesday, only goods vehicles up to 10 tons are permitted between 7 pm and 5 am, while daytime operations from 4 am to 7 pm remain conditional on road conditions.

In Rasuwa, the devastating floods of August 26 have left the Trishuli–Mailung–Syafrubensi road section in Khalte, Uttargaya Rural Municipality 5, completely blocked, along with all major highways in the district. Police estimate the disruption may persist for a long time.
Additional restrictions include a complete ban on vehicle movement along the Tokha–Chhahare road section in Ghattekhola, Shivpuri Rural Municipality 8, Nuwakot, from 10 pm to 5 am. The Pasang Lhamu road is also closed due to flooding in Simtar, Betrawati Municipality 10.
The Prithvi Highway in Dhading remains unstable. A landslide at Krishnabhir in Benighat Rorang 7 has fully blocked traffic, while only one lane has been opened for small vehicles at Parewabhir in Gajuri 2. One way traffic has also been allowed at Jwangkhola in Benighat Rorang 10 and Kamerebhir in Thakre 2.
In Karnali Province, the Mugu–Gamgadhi road is completely blocked after a landslide in Talcha, Chhayanath Rara Municipality 4. In Lumbini Province, the Shahid Marg has been closed due to a landslide in Bhalkhor, Parivartan Rural Municipality 3, Rolpa. Likewise, the Saljhandi–Dhorpatan road section in Arghakhanchi was blocked Tuesday afternoon after a landslide near Balsiddha Temple in Panini Rural Municipality 2.
Police have urged travelers to follow official updates and avoid unnecessary journeys, warning that road conditions remain volatile across multiple provinces.
