Ordinance controversy reaches Supreme Court

KATHMANDU, Feb 11: The controversy over the three ordinances promulgated by the president on Tuesday has reached the Supreme Court.



On Wednesday, advocate Raju Basnet filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court questioning the constitutionality of the ordinances enacted by "bypassing the parliament".



Basnet has asked the court to nullify the ordinances.



Acting on a controversial decision of the government, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav promulgated the ordinances relating to forming a disappearance commission, inclusion in public service and voter´s list.



In the meantime, the Supreme Court is holding an initial hearing on the writ petition on Thursday.
