Only 242 FM radios operational

KATHMANDU, Jan 24: The government has issued broadcasting permission to 405 FM radio stations until mid January. However, of them, only 242 are under regular operation.



The Traffic Control FM was the last radio station, receiving the transmission license from the Ministry, said Ministry´s Spokesperson Sushil Kumar Ojha.[break]



Similarly, the number of television channels, acquiring license from the Ministry has reached 34. However, of them, only 16 are in operation.



Likewise, the number of channels, receiving license for Satellite Distribution System (DTH) has reached nine while the number of channels acquiring downlink license has reached 101. Likewise, the number of Cable operators has reached 275.



According to Ojha, the Finance Ministry has agreed in principle to implement the concept paper related to accidental insurance of journalists.



Likewise, Right to Information Regulations (first amendment)-2068 and Film Production, Release and Distribution Regulations (fifth amendment)- 2068 have been sent to the Council of Ministers for approval.



Besides, Additional Post Office Regulations (third amendment)-2068 and Telecommunications Regulations (fifth amendment)--2068  have been already endorsed by the Council of Ministers  and have been sent for  publishing them in the Nepal Gazette, said Ojha.
