Elder son accused of murdering father, younger brother in Bhaktapur surrenders to police

The suspect, the elder son of Post Office employee Kul Prasad Acharya, was arrested in Maharajgunj after remaining at large following the incident. According to police sources, he has confessed to his involvement in the murders.

KATHMANDU, Dec 24: Police have apprehended a man accused of murdering his father and younger brother in Suryabinayak Municipality-2, Balkot, Bhaktapur. 


The suspect, the elder son of Post Office employee Kul Prasad Acharya, was arrested in Maharajgunj after remaining at large following the incident. According to police sources, he has confessed to his involvement in the murders.

Kul Prasad, 56, a non-gazetted first-class officer and acting head of the District Post Office in Diktel, Khotang, was found dead alongside his younger son, Prabin Acharya, in their rented room in Balkot on Monday morning. Acharya had traveled to Kathmandu on December 17. 


Residents of the house reported that the room shared by the two brothers remained locked on Sunday, raising suspicions. Police believe the murders may have occurred on Saturday. 


DSP Dhundi Raj Neupane, spokesperson for the District Police Range Bhaktapur, stated that the father and son were found dead in separate locked rooms with visible injuries. Police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident. 


The bodies of the victims have been sent to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
