One more arrested in Parvati murder case

BIRGANJ, Aug 25: Police have arrested one more person in connection with the murder of Parvati Devi Chaudhari of Supadi VDC in Parsa district.

According to the police, Kari Kha, 50, a neighbor of Chaudhari, was arrested on Saturday night.



Chaudhari, 45, a resident of Sadhi village in Supauli VDC-9, was murdered by her neighbors on August 15 for allegedly practicing witchcraft.

On the fatal day, some influential persons of the village had accused Chaudhari of practicing witchcraft and had ordered her and her husband Bhagan Tharu to leave the village. [break]



However, she was beaten to death on the same night as they were planning to leave the village the next day.

Immediately after the incident the police had arrested three women-Rajpati Devi Thruni, her daughter Seema and daughter in-law Renu in connection with the murder.

Even after Kha´s arrest, other 8 accused of the case are still on the run.



"We have arrested Kari Kha, one of the alleged masterminds in the Chaudhari murder case," said Superintendent of Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh. "The hunt for other accused is underway."



Three accused persons - Husli Mahato, Bisundev Mahato and Dhurup Mahato - who were hiding in a village in the Indian state of Bihar, which borders on Nepal, were arrested last Wednesday. Other accused-Jagadish Raut , his son Anil and Biram, daughter Pratima, Ganesh Raut Tharu, Sukadev Raut, Nabin Raut and Dhanraj Raut Tharu - are on the run.



The locals had accused Chaudhari of being a witch and the main cause behind the illness of Jagadish´s daughter Pratima.
