KAILALI, April 3: A man has died after being attacked by a wild elephant at Janaki rural municipality-6 of Kailali district.

Mansaram Dagaura,60, had gone to collect fern plants in the Jagatpur community forest when the incident took place on Friday, according to the Area Police Office, Tikapur. 

Dagaura died after being attacked by a wild elephant in the community forest, said Inspector Arun Bam.

There have been a number of incidents of attacks by wild animals on humans lately. Increasing destruction of forest land is depriving the wild animals of food sources and hence they are wandering around looking for food and attacking humans, said Chair of the Layakpur community forest users committee Harihar Giri.

There is a need to secure their habitat as well as their food sources, he said.
