One hurt in shootout

KATHMANDU, May 21: One person was injured in police firing at Naya Bazaar, Kathmandu on Friday afternoon.



Shiva Dhakal, 21, of Saurpani-2, Gorkha has sustained serious stomach injuries in the incident that took place at around 3:45 p.m. He is receiving treatment at Bir Hospital.



A police squad had been mobilized following a tip-off about persons allegedly trading weapons at Naya Bazaar. Police said they fired bullets in retaliation after the alleged weapon traders shot at them twice and tried to flee the scene.



They recovered a country-made pistol and a bullet from the spot.
