Bauddha shootout: ‘Police forced open fire in self-defense’

KATHMANDU, Oct 12: One member of a robbers’ group was injured and two others were detained by the police after a shootout at the Baudhhanath Stupa in Baudhha, Kathmandu Thursday afternoon.

KATHMANDU, Oct 12: One member of a robbers’ group was injured and two others were detained by the police after a shootout at the Baudhhanath Stupa in Baudhha, Kathmandu Thursday afternoon.


Spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and Superintendent of Police (SP) Rabindra Regmi said that Santosh Ghanal of Sindhuli was injured in the shootout carried out by the police in self defense.

He said, “Ghanal was injured when the robbers’ group attacked our police team and we responded in self-defense.”


According to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, the injured Ghanal is being treated at ANMS Hospital, Jorpati.


Similarly, Shanta Lama and Jiten Lama were detained by the police in the incident. 


Seven rounds of bullets, a pistol and two motorcycles were recovered from them, said SP Regmi.
