KATHMANDU, Aug 8: A tragic landslide in Sigre, Bagmati Rural Municipality-5 of Makwanpur, has resulted in the loss of one life, while six individuals including three children, remain missing.
According to the Makwanpur District Police Office, the residence of Akkal Bahadur Syangtan in Bagmati-5, Sigre, Devan, was engulfed by a landslide. Tragically, the landslide claimed the life of 55-year-old Santamaya Syangtan, Akkal Bahadur's wife.

Following the landslide, Akkal Bahadur Syangtan, along with his daughter Sheela Syangtan, son-in-law Jeevan Pahri, his four-year-old grandson Milan Pahri, his one-and-a-half-year-old granddaughter Divya Pahri, and a 16-year-old guest named Pasang from Hariharpur, Sindhuli, were buried under debris and remain missing, as reported by the police.
Tek Bahadur Karki, the spokesperson for the Makwanpur District Police Office, confirmed that the police managed to rescue Santamaya Syangtan from the wreckage, but unfortunately, she passed away during the course of medical treatment.
Bijay Kumar Bholn, the Chairman of Ward 5 in Makwanpur's Bagmati Rural Municipality shared, "Their residence was situated near the riverbank, and during the night, all family members were engulfed by the landslide. The search for the remaining individuals is ongoing."
Presently, local residents and the police are tirelessly working to locate the missing family members. The landslide led to the burial of their riverside home. The incident transpired in Triveni Dobhan, situated on the border between Makwanpur and Kavre, as confirmed by Buddhi Bahadur Syangtan, the Chairman of Ward 5 in Kavre Khanikhola Rural Municipality. Although the family holds permanent residency in Kavre Khanikhola-5, they maintained residences in both districts, with a preference for Makwanpur.
