KATHMANDU, Dec 3: Medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai has announced plans to proclaim Nepal as a Vedic Sanatan Hindu Dharma nation on February 17, 2024. Former King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah will light a lamp at Kathmandu’s Basantapur to mark the proclamation, Prasai has claimed.

He said that the lamp, earlier lit by the former king in Mechi, will symbolically be lit again by the former monarch at Basantpur on February 17, signifying the declaration of Nepal as a Vedic Sanatan Hindu nation.

Addressing reporters on Sunday morning, he said, "By rekindling the lamp initially lit by the King in Mechi, now in Basantpur, we will mark the declaration of Nepal as a Vedic Sanatan Hindu nation. This marks the beginning of a significant change in our system."

Prasai said that the former king should also step out of the palace and come to the streets to address the nation's grievances.

He said that the next protest will adopt a decentralized approach and he will make the movement to change the system decisive from February 17.

He said that by February 16, a parallel government would be announced, initiating the exercise of parallel power from local villages to the national center. He emphasized that the civilian administration would encompass nationalist forces, extending invitations to influential figures, including those outside traditional media circles such as YouTubers.

Reflecting on the accomplishments of the initial phase of the movement, Prasai asserted that they had successfully overcome the dominance of the UML’s Yuwa Sangh bully during this period.
