KATHMANDU, July 29: Talks between the government and the locals of the Sisdol Landfill Site affected areas ended inconclusively on Wednesday. Due to obstruction at the site by a group led by a local Maoist leader, garbage has not been collected from the streets of the capital for the past six days.

While the residents of Okharpauwa, Nuwakot, and other affected areas focused on certain development-related demands, the government officials stressed on finalization of policies for waste management. The meeting was not attended by the secretaries of seven ministries as announced before. Only officials of Garbage Management and Source Mobilization Center (GMSMC) held talks with the locals.

However, both the sides have agreed to form a body for the management of the waste disposal site within the next three months. Similarly, they have also agreed to operate Central Bancharedanda Site within two years and to extend the capacity of Sisdol for interim use.

Meanwhile, the struggle committee led by Maoist cadre Ramesh Paudel has demanded that they be entitled to sign the agreement. However, the government has turned down the demand.
