DANG, March 31: A ward official at Ghorahi sub-metropolitan city-2 in Dang has been arrested after he forced a nurse to leave a rented room in his house suspecting that she could transmit the coronavirus to his family.

Srijana Khadka, a local nurse affiliated to the Ghorahi-based Buddha International Hospital, had been living in a rented room for four months in a house belonging to Narayan Acharya, the ward secretary.

As the ward secretary repeatedly asked her to leave the rented room, Khadka tried to convince him saying that she was taking all required measures to keep her safe. Acharya gave her two options either to leave the rented room or not to go to work. Finally, the nurse decided to leave the room.

“Since I couldn’t get leave from hospital, I had no other option rather than leaving the room," she said.

Acharya, however, claimed that she was forced to leave the room due to her profession. “Along with Srijana, two others used to stay in the rented room,” he said adding that he told them to look for another room as space was not enough for three.

However, Nurse Khadka insisted that they were forced to leave the room only because of being a nurse. She said that three of them were staying in the room taking the pre-consent by Acharya. “As coronavirus infection fear started growing, he told us to stay in hospital which was not possible for us at all,” said she and added, “As we kept on staying in the room, he exerted pressure on us to leave the room.”

The issue has now become a talk of town after the ward authority reportedly forced the nurse to leave her rented room on March 28. After leaving her rented room she has shifted to a nearby hotel.

When asked about the incident, Chief District Office of Danga Govinda Prasad Rijal said that it was not good for anyone to have been expelled from the room just because of the profession.
