Nepal Police IGP Rabindra Pratap Shah and NTC Managing Director Vishwa Nath Goel signed the MoU of the sponsorship amidst a program in the capital.[break]
As per the deal, NPC will get Rs 1.6 million per year and in return will display NTC logo on its jersey. Likewise, NTC can make use of NPC players in its advertisements and promotional matters.
“Nepal Telecom signed the sponsorship to support the development of football, a popular sport in the country,” said Goel in the signing ceremony. “Nepal Police Club is one of the successful and well known clubs of the country, therefore, the sponsorship could help promote Nepal Telecom,” he added.
“No 1 telecom company of the country joins hand with No 1 football team of the country,” said Goel.
IGP Shah thanked NTC for supporting the departmental team and said that the partnership between the two institutions will help in the developmnet of the sport. “Nepal Police had set up its first football team in 1950 and that was a historical event. This sponsorship could be another turning-point in the history of the Nepal Police Club,” said Shah.
During the signing ceremony, IGP Shah and NTC Managing Director Goel handed over team´s jersey to NPC captain Jumanu Rai.
The sponsorship deal is the second highest among the Nepali football clubs. Earlier, Mega Bank had signed Rs 1.675 million sponsorship deal will Three Star Club.
NPC is the 10th club to get sponsor during the ongoing league. Three Star, Manag Marshyangdi, Himalayan Sherpa, Jawalakhel, Bansbari, Machhindra, Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) and Nepal APF Club already have sponsors.
NPC that won consecutive league titles in 2007 and 2010 will complete its title hat-trick if it wins this year´s league.
DDC Cup kicks off
Makawanpur defeated Nawalparasi 2-1 in the opening match of the Inter District Development Committee (DDC) Cup U-15 Football Tournament that kicked off in Narayanghat, Chitwan on Monday.
Dinesh Shahi and Akash Katuwal scored a goal each for Makawanpur while Dhanu Thapa scored one for Nawalparasi. Meanwhile, Syangja routed Sarlahi 7-0 in the second match of the day.
Ajay BK and Rajendra Shrestha scored a brace each while Pum Gurung, Umesh Gurung and Rabi Ale added a goal each. Altogether 17 districts are participating in the tournament.
National Open Para TT
Sushil Gautam (Kathmandu), Manoj Thapa (Syangja), Rama Magar (Dolakha) and Hem Gurung (Chitwan) booked their semifinal berths in senior boys´ singles of the First National Open Para Table Tennis Tournament that began on Monday in Jorpati, Kathmandu.
Likewise, Ajay BK (Ilam), Shiva Thapa (Dolakha), Ganesh Sanjel (Khotang) and Siddhartha Khadka (Kathmandu) reached the semifinals of junior boys´ singles in the tournament organized by National Table Tennis Association of Physically Challenged.
In the senior girls´ singles, Kamala Budhathoki (Ramechhap), Hira Niraula (Kavre), Sharmila BK (Kavre) and Parvati Adhikari (Sindhupalchowk) registered victories to book their places in the last four.
Sotokan, Gojuryu federations formed
Nepal Sotokan Karate-do Federation and Nepal Gojuryu Karate-do Federation were formed on Monday.
The Sotokan Federation includes representatives from four existing sotokan associations while the Gojuryu Federation includes representatives from three gojuryu associations in existence.
Niwas Gopal Baidya is the president of the newly-formed Sotokan Federation while BR Mitra heads the Gojuryu Federation. The two federations were formed after the National Sports Council mediated to settle disputes between associations with the same names.
Morgan win women´s team event
Morgan International College clinched the women´s team event title of Morgan Cup Second Inter-college Table Tennis Tournament on Monday defeating Prime College 3-0 in the final. In the team event of five singles, Morgan won three consecutive matches to lift the title. Liverpool and Caribbean settled for third. Meanwhile, Morgan and Prime will vie for the men´s team event title. Morgan saw off Golden Gate 3-2 in the semifinal while Prime beat Alliance 3-1.
Kanchanpur lifts kabaddi title
Kanchanpur won the title of Far-western Regional Men´s Kabaddi Championship on Monday beating Kailali in the final held at Tundikhel in Dadeldhura. Darchula finished third. Janak Chand of Kanchanpur was adjudged the best player of the tournament. Eight teams from as many districts had participated in the event.
