The study team, which comprises four NSC officials, is preparing a report stating that Dhangadhi could host the national event. "We found that Dhangadhi can host the event, but NSC should work on infrastructure," said Kul Bahadur Thapa, a member of the task force.
According to Thapa, sports personalities and people of the region demanded not to withdraw the games from Dhangadhi. "They have suggested us to give opportunities to Dhangadhi, Mahendranagar, Tikapur and Dadeldhura to host the Games and we are taking the suggestion on a serious note," said Thapa.
"We are impressed by the enthusiasm of the people. We found some schools in the region are even preparing cultural shows for the opening and closing ceremonies," added Thapa.
However, the task force found that the city could not host three sports events --swimming, golf and squash. "If NSC decides to organize the National Games in Dhangadhi, we should make special provision of hosting swimming, golf and squash in any other city," said Thapa. Likewise, the athletics track at the Dhangadhi Stadium should be built before the Games.
A team led by NSC member Khadga Bahadur Ranabhat and including NSC officers Thapa, Sudhir Pokharel and engineer Arun Upadhyaya had recently visited the Far Western Region for the feasibility study.
