KATHMANDU, Sept 4: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) will not be issuing new banknotes for Dashain this year. Instead, the bank will provide only clean notes.
This change is part of the NRB’s cost management strategy, as it seeks to reduce expenses associated with printing new currency. The decision also aligns with a broader goal to promote digital transactions.
NRB to distribute clean notes for exchange from Sept 29
Traditionally, the NRB distributes new notes of the denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 for the Dashain-Tihar festivals. However, this year, the bank will forgo this practice.
In the past five years, NRB has spent an average of Rs 1.3 billion annually on printing new banknotes.
