NPC thrashes Central Region in women’s league opener

KATHMANDU, Jan 1: Nepal Police Club (NPC) opened the 16th National Women’s Football League being played under the National Sports Council Championship with a thumping 6-2 win over Central Region on Sunday. 


Nirmala BK netted four goals whereas Amrita Jaisi and skipper Ghim Kumari Gurung added one goal each for the departmental side in the Group A match held at ANFA Complex ground, Satdobato, Lalitpur.  Sabita Rana Magar and Mithila Kuswar replied for Central Region. 


BK put NPC on the driving seat by scoring an opener in the 11th minute and doubled the tally two minutes later. Likewise, Jaisi made 3-0 in the 19th minute for the winning team. 

Central Region cut the deficit with Magar’s goal in the 26th minute, but NPC extended its lead by 4-1 in the 36th minute with BK producing her personal third of the match. 


BK did not stop there as she struck her fourth goal in the 49th minute to make 5-1 for NPC.  Skipper Gurung netted NPC’s sixth goal through a spot in the 72nd minute. Central Region’s Kuswar struck a consolation goal in the 79th minute to make the score-line 6-2.

NPC’s head coach Sanjeev Joshi was delighted to begin the tournament with a big win over the Central Region. He also praised Central Region players despite outclassing them. 

“Although they conceded six goals, they are still not a weak side. The players have strong bonding,” Joshi said.  


Meanwhile, Noor Raj Kafle, head coach of Central Region, was satisfied with the performance of his players despite the poor result. 


 “I am satisfied with the performance of my girls. NPC is a strong team and scoring against them was kind of encouragement to us,” Kafle said.  


In the second match of the day, Far-western Region recorded 4-0 victory over the Eastern Region. Chandra Bhandari and Sirsha Karki netted two goals each for Far-western. 


Bhandari opened the score in the ninth minute and added another in the 37th minute for Far-western. Likewise, Karki struck in the 82nd and 89th minutes. 


On Monday, Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) will face Western Region in group B match, while the second match  of the day in the same group will see Armed Police Force (APF) and Mid-western Region competing.


A total of eight teams including five regional sides and three departmental outfits are taking part in the competition.
