KATHMANDU, June 26: Nominees for four categories of the upcoming Pulsar NSJF Sports Award have been announced on Tuesday.
At an event organized in Kathmandu on the day, Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) unveiled the nominees for men and women players of the year awards, along with the nominees for the youth player and the coach of the year.
A selection committee of the forum selected paragliding’s Yukesh Gurung, cricket’s Paras Khadka and Sompal Kami, golf’s Sukra Raj Rai, and Judo’s Indra Bahadur Shrestha for the men’s player of the year, while it selected football’s Sabitra Bhandari, volleyball’s Saraswati Chaudhary, cricket’s Seeta Rana Magar, judo’s Manita Shrestha, and taekwondo’s Nima Rai in the women’s category.

Likewise, in the youth player category, badminton’s Prince Dahal, athletics’ Ajit Kumar Yadav, cricket’s Lalit Rajbanshi, football’s Manjali Yonjan, and karate’s Bijay Shrestha managed to make the cut. Also, for the manager of the year award, the selection committee chose paragliding’s Yogesh Bhattarai, cricket’s Jagat Tamatta, athletics’ Dhani Ram Chaudhary, volleyball’s Gyanendra Bista, and football’s Hari Khadka.
NSJF had already announced the nominees for the People’s Choice Award.
Cricket’s Sandeep Lamichhane, badminton’s Dahal, football’s Bhandari, volleyball’s Reshma Bhandari, and bodybuilding’s Mahesh Maharjan were nominated for the most coveted sports award in the country.
The winner will be decided by SMS voting, Facebook likes (four likes equal one vote), votes from the NSJF members, and head coaches of the sports disciplines which were part of the Eighth National Games.
The SMS voting and Facebook likes will carry a weight of 50% and the votes from NSJF and coaches will carry the other half.
The best players in men’s and women’ categories, the best coach, and the winner of the People’s Choice Award will be rewarded with a Pulsar motorbike each, while the winners of other categories will get Rs 50,000 each.
The award ceremony will be held at Nepal Academy Hall in Kamaladi, Kathmandu, on July 2.
