#Powerful quake rocks Turkiya and Syria

KATHMANDU, Feb 6: Non-resident Ambassador of Nepal to Turkey Tapas Adhikari has said that there has not been any report of unpleasant situation involving Nepali nationals in Turkiy, which experienced multiple powerful earthquake waves on Monday.
Talking to Republica over the phone from Islamabad, Ambassador Adhikari said Nepal’s Embassy in Islamabad, which is concurrently accredited to Turkey, is in contact with Nepali nationals living in Turkey.
“So far, we have not received any unpleasant reports from Nepali nationals whom the embassy has been able to contact. All Nepalis are safe till now,” he said.
Ambassador Adhikari said that he is constantly monitoring the situation in Turkey and establishing contact with more Nepali nationals to get the update. “It is believed that around 2,000 Nepali nationals live and work in Turkey. All of them are reported safe so far,” he said over the phone on Monday evening.
More than 2,300 people have reportedly died a devastating earthquake ripped through Turkey and Syria, leaving destruction and debris on each side of the border. At least two major aftershocks were reproted following a 7.8 Magnitude earthquake that struck parts of Turkey and Syria at 4;17 am on Monday.
