“We will arrest people found drink-driving and hurling tomatoes, eggs and lolas to play holi,” said SSP Ravi Raj Shrestha, joint police commissioner´s at MPCO, Ranipokhari, adding that such people would be booked under the public offence act.
“We just want people to celebrate holi in a disciplined manner.”
The police had booked 19 people last year under the same act for violating the police instructions.
A total of 2,240 police personnel will be deployed in the Valley for the holi festival. The MPCO, Ranipokhari, is going to deploy additional 500 police personnel. The police personnel jointly with traffic police will check motorists for drink driving, informed SSP Shrestha.
Police will be deployed at 152 check points in the Valley for holi festival.
SSP Shrestha informed that MPCO, Ranipokhari, will also have a stand-by team for emergency and plainclothesmen to gather information.
“The main purpose of the drive is to avoid any unpleasant incident,” he concluded.
Police arrest 148 from Kathmandu
Police on Tuesday arrested 148 people from different parts of the Valley for unsolicited use of water balloons. All arrested are males.
“We have arrested them as they were found hurling water balloons despite our instructions,” said SSP Ravi Raj Shrestha.
Similarly, police had arrested 41 people on Monday for similar offence.
