No compromise on army chief issue: NC

KATHMANDU, April 26: Nepali Congress has decided not to make any consensus with the Maoists until the government withdraws action against the army chief. [break]



A meeting of party´s senior leaders held in party President Girija Prasad Koirala in Maharajgunj decided to continue its obstruction in the parliament. The parliament meeting is scheduled at 3 p.m. Sunday. Three meetings were continuously obstructed over the issue of gogveernment action against the army chief.



“We have decided to continue the protest as decided by a meeting of 17 political parties represented in the Constituent Assembly and party´s Central Working Committee last week,” said party´s Spokesperson Arjun Narsingh KC.



KC said the senior leaders reiterated at the meeting that the action initiated against army chief Rookmangud Katawal was part of the Maoists strategy to demoralize and create split in Nepal Army to serve its partisan interest.



“The action came after weakening media, bureaucracy and police,” he said. “So we have decided not to make any compromise with the Maoist-led government on the issue of its action against the army chief.”
