KATHMANDU, Oct 12: Chief whip of the Nepali Congress (NC) Chinkaji Shrestha on Wednesday said that his party will not compromise with the issues of federalism, secularism and republic in the name of constitution amendment.

Speaking at an interaction organized by Reporters Club Nepal in the capital today, Shrestha said, “the NC will not compromise with the issues of federalism, secularism and republic for minor changes in the constitution.”

He further said that his party is serious with the constitution amendment. “We are serious toward addressing the demands of the agitating parties including the Madhesi Morcha.”

However, he hinted his party’s flexibility saying that these issues can also be changed with the people’s mandate.

He underscored the need to hold all the three elections –local, provincial and federal - by January 21, 2018 and added the preparations are underway to this effect accordingly.

“The Parliament has already endorsed the Bill on Judicial Administration Act. We should bring the Madhesi parties onboard the constitution amendment process and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is also holding meetings to this effect,” said Shrestha.

Meanwhile, he also urged the main opposition CPN-UML to bail the country by playing a constructive role by taking part in the constitution amendment process.
