ILAM, August 20: Former Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal, who is also a senior CPN-UML leader, has said that there is no alternative to reorganizing the party as Chairman KP Oli has taken the party onto the path of 'rightist opportunism' and 'capitalism'.

Talking to Republica over the telephone from India, where he is undergoing treatment after kidney transplant, former UML Chairman Khanal said that they will now unite all leaders and cadres of UML within the new party. "It is high time we defeated rightist opportunism," said Khanal, alleging that Oli had already fallen into the quagmire of rightist opportunism.

Arguing that the current leadership of the party had torn the constitution apart and undermined the people's mandate, Khanal said that they were forced to reorganize the party. "The UML was moving ahead with a high potential. But since the leadership took action against leaders one after another and harbored prejudices against certain leaders," he said, "The leadership twice dissolved parliament that had an extraordinary two-thirds majority strength of the party. The leadership also tore apart the constitution that was promulgated through consensus."

Claiming that the new political party has a bright future, Khanal said that they will move ahead with the goal of achieving socialism. He appealed to all UML leaders and cadres to get organized under the new political party and said that there is no point in getting confused or delaying to be part of the new political party.
