Nirmal Purja returns to Nepal from Indonesia after scaling Carstensz Pyramid (Photo Feature)

KATHMANDU, Oct 25: Nirmal Purja, a global icon in mountaineering and known for his resilience and carrying Nepal’s rich legacy of mountaineering, has returned to Nepal from Indonesia on October 25, 2024, after setting a new record.

KATHMANDU, Oct 25: Nirmal Purja, a global icon in mountaineering and known for his resilience and carrying Nepal’s rich legacy of mountaineering, has returned to Nepal from Indonesia on October 25, 2024, after setting a new record.


Mountaineer Nirmal Purja has returned to Nepal this time with a new record after completing the final summit of the Seven Summits Challenge by scaling Indonesia's Carstensz Pyramid. Carstensz Pyramid, one of the Seven Summits of the world, is located in Papua Province, Indonesia. By standing atop Carstensz Pyramid, Purja has successfully completed his Seven Summits Challenge.

Purja also holds the unique world record of summiting all 14 of the world’s highest peaks-both with and without supplemental oxygen-in just five years, five months, and 12 days. His journey, which began on April 23, 2019, reached its remarkable completion on October 4, 2024.
