NHRC urges govt to address health of hunger striker Yadav

KATHMANDU, Aug 11: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged the government to take immediate measures to protect the health of Binay Yadav, who has been on a hunger strike in Kathmandu for 12 days.



Yadav has been staging the hunger strike at Maitighar demanding an impartial investigation into the Devanaganj incident in Sunsari.

The NHRC assessed Yadav’s health condition after visiting him at the protest site and expressed concern over its deterioration.


In a statement issued by NHRC spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokharel, the NHRC urged the government to take the hunger striker’s health condition seriously, facilitate effective medical treatment and ensure protection of his life.


The NHRC also called on the government to resolve the issue through dialogue.
