KATHMANDU, Sept 2:  The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said its attention was drawn seriously towards the death of a prisoner.

Releasing a statement on Sunday, Spokesperson at the NHRC Mohana Ansari said that the NHRC's attention was seriously drawn towards the death of 30-year-old Ram Manohar Yadav of Banke district, who died during treatment while he was in detention.

Ram Manohar was arrested on the charge of showing black flag to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health and Population Upendra Yadav on August 23, while DPM Yadav was attending a programme in Bardiya.

The NHRC also drew the attention of the government towards saving lives of the arrested ones by rendering them healthcare services in case of medical conditions during the detention.

The families of those detained along with Yadav today submitted a memorandum NHRC's Chairperson Anupraj Sharma to carry out an investigation into the incident and provide compensation to the victims and bring to book the culprits.

Chairperson Sharma, in response, pledged to find out the truth and to proceed for the necessary actions as per the report. RSS
