KATHMANDU, Oct 2: Nepal Freight Forwarders Association (NEFFA) has showed concern over rising demurrage and detention charge of goods lying stranded at different custom points.
Speaking at a program organized by Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) in Kathmandu on Friday, NFFA officials said inability to clear goods from different custom points in time would mean higher detention and demurrage charges for importers.
Demurrage charge at Raxaul station hiked by up to six times
They also urged NCC to resolve the issue and help in timely dispatch of containers by holding talks with the government.
"Demurrage and detention charges of containers stuck at border points is increasing every day," Rajan Sharma, president of NEFFA said, adding, "We appeal to all stakeholders to resolve the issue as soon as possible."
Meanwhile, business people have asked the government to do the needful for waiver of such charges.
