News portal proprietor, editor arrested for spreading rumor

KATHMANDU, May 21: Proprietor of a news portal --www.xpresskhabar.com and its editor have been arrested by police on the charge of spreading rumor about the earthquake.

Proprietor Gyanendra Bhattarai and editor Chandramani Sapkota were taken into police custody by the Metropolitan Police Circle. The news portal had published a report titled 'Danger of an earthquake of greater scale than that of 1934'. The link to the report was also published through the social media including Facebook and twitter, spreading panic among the readers.


The duo was prodded about the source and authenticity of the report and have since removed it from their website, along with an apology, police said. RSS
