Newly-elected MPs to take oath of office and secrecy today

KATHMANDU, Dec 22: All 275 newly-elected members of the House of Representatives (HoR) are taking oath of office and secrecy on Thursday.

KATHMANDU, Dec 22: All 275 newly-elected members of the House of Representatives (HoR) are taking oath of office and secrecy on Thursday.


According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the newly-elected lawmakers will take oath of office and secrecy at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwar at 1:00 pm.

Spokesperson for the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Dr Rojnath Pandey, said that the elected members of the lower house of parliament have been requested to come with their certificate of election to the post for the swearing-in ceremony.


Senior-most member of the HoR, Pashupati Shumsher Rana, will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the newly-elected HoR members. Rana has already assumed office at the Federal Parliament Secretariat in Singha Durbar after taking oath of office and secrecy from President Bidya Devi Bhandari at the Office of the President in Shital Niwas.


According to officials at the Federal Parliament Secretariat, a pin representing the logo of parliament would be distributed to lawmakers soon after taking oath of office and secrecy.


The secretariat has already prepared an oath paper in Nepali language for the swearing-in ceremony. The lawmakers who want to take oath of office and secrecy in their mother tongue must make such a request by 11:00 am Thursday.


After the oath-taking ceremony, a tea reception has been scheduled in honor of the newly-elected lawmakers.
