MAKWANPUR, Dec 29: Lawmakers of Bagmati Province Assembly have taken the oath of office and secrecy.
Ram Prasad Dhungana, the senior-most member of the Provincial Assembly, administered the oath of office and secrecy to the members of the Provincial Assembly On Thursday.

There are 110 MPs in Bagmati Province Assembly including 66 directly elected MPs and 44 elected under proportional representation. All 110 MPs were present during the oath-taking ceremony. Among them, 13 took oaths in their mother tongue and 97 took oaths in the national language. Dhungana, the senior-most member of the province assembly, took the oath on Wednesday. This time there are 7 parties in the province assembly. While the Nepali Congress has 37 MPs and is the largest party in the province assembly, the CPN-UML is the second largest party with 27 MPs, and the CPN-Maoist Center is the third largest party with 21 MPs.
Similarly, there are 13 members of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, seven members of the CPN (Unified Socialist), three members of the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party and two from Hamro Nepali Party. With the swearing in of province assembly members, the process of selecting the Speaker will now proceed. Secretary of the Provincial Assembly Secretariat Krishna Hari Khadka said that the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker should be completed within 15 days of the first session of the Provincial Assembly. The MPs were present with their families for the oath taking ceremony. Leaders and activists of political parties were also present to congratulate them.
