POKHARA, Aug 26: Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) has developed new routes in the world famous Annapurna range. The process of constructing necessary infrastructure as well as erecting signboards along the newly identified routes has begun recently.

ACAP came up with the idea of marking new trekking routes to provide an alternative to Annapurna Trekking Route that has been shortened with the construction of motorable roads along the route in Manang and Mustang districts. [break]

“We developed new routes as old trekking routes in the area are getting shorter with incresed access to transport services,” Devendra Thapa, information officer at ACAP told myrepublica.com. We are in the process of erecting signboards in the newly developed trekking routes he said. Last year, over 80,000 tourists had visited the ACAP.

The new routes cover major tourist destinations including Ghalegaun, Ghanpokhara, Tharchu, Dudhpokhari, Namunapass, Timang, Bhujung, Siurang, Pasgaun, Beshishahar and Tangting.

ACAP expects that the tourists spots located in the rural parts of Lamjung and Kaski districts will be developed with the opening of new routes. Tourist guide information centers has been set up at the cost of Rs 92,000. Total 10 days are required to complete each new trekking route.

According to Thapa, local people of Baglungpani, Besishahar , Uttrakanya, Ghanpokhara, Bhujung and Pasgaun of Lamjung and Rabedanda, Nagidhar, Pakharikot, Gahate and Thumsikot of Kaski will be most benefited with the introduction of new routes.
