A cabinet meeting took the decision to fill the post that has been lying vacant from almost two months after the term of then chairman Surbir Poudel was over. [break]
Shrestha, 58, holds a Master´s degree in economics from Tribhuwan University, Post Graduate Diploma from University of Dortmunt, Germany, and Master´s in Spatial Planning and Management from Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok.
He has been teaching as a profession in Pokhara University for last eight years. He has also served as the executive director of Local Development Training Center for three years.
The government recently formed a panel led by Janak Raj Shah, member of National Planning Commission, to recommend to the government names for the post of Sebon chief. As many as 13 aspirants submitted their plans for the development of the capital market along with their applications for the post.
Talking to Republica after his appointment, Shrestha pledged to boost the battered confidence of investors and implement the proposed five-year plan for expansion and development of the capital market to international standards.
“My efforts will be focused on upholding the confidence of investors by maintaining transparency and introducing new technology for institutional development of the capital market, which is still in a primitive stage,” said Shrestha.
Shrestha expressed his commitments to develop Sebon as a powerful and effective body.
