KATHMANDU, Aug 10: This week saw a new record in gold prices. Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, gold prices initially rose, then fell mid-week, and increased again toward the end of the week. Analysts attributed the mid-week decrease to improvements in the US labor market and a strengthening US dollar.

In the domestic market, gold prices also set a new record this week. On Sunday, the price of gold was Rs 149,700 per tola. By Saturday, the price had peaked at Rs 150,000 per tola.

However, after a drop on the last trading day of the week, gold prices rebounded to Rs 148,100 per tola on Friday. This represents an increase of Rs 1,600 per tola compared to the price at the start of the week.

Conversely, silver prices in the domestic market decreased this week. On Sunday, silver was priced at Rs 1,785 per tola, but by Friday, the price had dropped to Rs 1,730 per tola.
