KATHMANDU, July 14: President Ram Chandra Paudel is appointing CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli as the new Prime Minister today.

The process of appointmenting Oli as the new prime minister will take place today after the deadline set by the President for the formation of the new government comes to an end, said Kiran Pokharel, the Press Advisor to President Ram Chandra Paudel.

Officials at the President’s Office said the oath-taking ceremony for the prime minister will be held on Monday at 11 AM at the request of Oli, according to the President's Press Advisor Pokharel. The swearing-in ceremony was rescheduled as the time will not be enough for the same on Sunday, added Press Adivsor Pokharel.

The cabinet expansion is also expected on Monday itself.

President Paudel had, in accordance with Article 76 (2) of the Constitution, called on parties on Friday to submit their stake on the new government leadership by 5:00 pm today. Accordingly, UML Chairman Oli had submitted his claim for the post of the Prime Minister on Friday itself with the support of Nepali Congress (NC).

A new government is being formed after incumbent Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal  lost a majority of the parliament, with the UML deciding to part ways with him and join hands with the main opposition party in the federal parliament.
