KATHMANDU, April 3:  The proposed new organizational structure of the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA) has reached the Council of Ministers. The proposal also seeks the reduction of some posts.

The report of the Organization and Management Survey (O&M Survey) conducted to restructure the ministry proposes scrapping the positions of over a dozen employees of the ministry. Currently, there are 172 positions in the ministry.

It has been proposed to reduce the number of positions such as the under secretary and employees of lower levels. The posts of six joint secretaries for MoFAGA will remain, while a new position of one technical joint secretary has been proposed.

MoFAGA is going to create about 12 positions including one technical joint secretary to establish a division to run some of the projects that are currently being run through the Department of Local Infrastructure (DoLI) of the Ministry of Urban Development.

The government had previously decided to transfer 10 percent of the technical staff at DoLI under the federal affairs ministry to the urban development ministry.

According to sources, the report has been sent to the Council of Ministers for approval after completing the procedures. There is a provision that the organizational structures of ministries and federal agencies can be reorganized only after a decision by the Council of Ministers.
