New nutraceutical, cosmeceutical products should seek DDA permission before entering market: State Health Minister Karki

KATHMANDU, Jan 31: Minister of State for Health and Population Dr Toshima Karki has said that different types of drugs are being sold in the market by promoting them through social media, and that there is a need to make a mechanism to follow the rules.

KATHMANDU, Jan 31: Minister of State for Health and Population Dr Toshima Karki has said that different types of drugs are being sold in the market by promoting them through social media, and that there is a need to make a mechanism to follow the rules.


Addressing a program organized during the monitoring and briefing of the Department of Drug Administration (DDA) on Tuesday, she said that it is necessary to make sure that new nutraceutical and cosmeceutical products are shown to the Department of Drug Administration and permissions should be obtained before launching such products in the market.

She said that many types of advertisements are being used freely in the market and drugs are also being sold indiscriminately, so it is necessary to control and regulate them.


State Minister Karki urged that there is a great possibility of producing medicines within the country and to carry out research related to that.


Karki insisted that online drug shopping through social media will become more rampant if it is not regulated and controlled.
