He said a new government will be formed once the peace process concludes. [break]
Sitaula´s remark came a day after Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai said in an interview with Kantipur Television that the present government would be transformed into a national consensus government after November 23 and by November 30.
“It is merely his (prime minister) personal view. The political parties have not even held discussion about transforming the present government into a national consensus government by November 30,” Sitaula told journalists at his resident at Baluwatar Tuesday afternoon.
He claimed that the UCPN (Maoist) itself has proposed NC to lead the government that will hold general election after promulgation of a new constitution.
“We don´t need to spell out our claim for leadership of the new government because it is NC´s turn,” argued Sitaula.
He opined that NC is clear that it will lead the government after the peace process reaches an irreversible point.
Sitaula said that the seven-point agreement reached among the political parties will be overshadowed if the parties start debating as to who will lead the new government.
He also opined that the constitution drafting has not been given much attention as it can be settled within 15 days after completion of the peace process.
“I don´t think it will take more than 15 days to settle the issues of constitution writing once the peace process concludes,” stated Sitaula.
He said that the task of categorizing the Maoist combatants can be concluded by November 23 if the Maoists especially Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal wants stating that the latter has command over 95 percent combatants.
In a separate note, Sitaula said that the government must take initiative to provide compensation to the owners of seized lands during the decade long conflict in the country.
