New Diamond, APF to vie for title

KATHMANDU, Sept 15: New Diamond Academy and Armed Police Force (APF) Club will vie for the title of the Nawa Adarsha Cup Women's National Volleyball Tournament for the third time as both the teams secured their berths in the final of the fourth edition on Tuesday. The final match will be played at Lamachaur, Pokhara.

Defending champion New Diamond beat Western Region 25-5, 27-25, 27-25 in the semifinal while APF beat another departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club 25-12, 25-14, 25-15 in another semifinal.New Diamond has an upper hand against APF as it had won the title clash duirng the previous two occasions.

With player-of-the-match performance from skipper as well as quicker Lalita Nath, the two-time champion New Diamond beat Western Region to set its eyes on hat-trick of titles.

"Our team played an improved game with success in service, defense and attack," said New Diamond coach Kumar Rai, who was satisfied with the result.

Skipper Lalita said that APF is one of the toughest teams to face in the final.

Meanwhile, APF coach Gyanendra Bista is optimistic of beating New Diamond in the final to clinch the title.

"The results do not repeat always. I am confident that the team will lift the title if it plays its natural game," said Bista.
