New bird sighted in Chitwan

RATNANAGAR (Chitwan), Jan 27: A new species of bird has been sighted in the marshland of Chitwan district. 

The Bird Education Society, Chitwan's immediate past Chairman, Basu Bindari, confirmed the discovery of the bird named Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres). Although it is the third instance the bird has been sighted in Nepal, it is the first sighting in Chitwan. 

Ruddy Turnstone, a small wading bird of the two species of turnstone in the genus Arenaria, was found during aquatic bird census held for the past two weeks in Chitwan. The research is being held to find out the birds' habitat and situation. 

With the latest discovery, the number of bird species found in the district has climbed to 634. Nepal is home to 887 species of bird. RSS
