KATHMANDU, May 10: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming to Nepal on a two-day official visit on May 11-12. Social Media has been awash with messages against Modi for his Nepali visit.  There are so many hashtags like #BlockadeWasCrimeMrModi, #ModiNotWelcome which are on trending.

Coming down heavily on Indian Prime Minister Modi, Badal Basnet has tweeted saying that the people of Nepal have not forgotten the woes caused by six-month-long blockade imposed by India and the continuous political interference so they do not want to welcome Modi.

Similarly, Tanka Raj Khanal has mentioned in his tweet that Modi-led Indian government committed a heinous crime by imposing a blockade on Nepal so Nepali people are not willing to welcome him.

Likewise, Prakash Adhikari said Modi multiplied the woes and troubles caused by 2015 Mega earthquake in Nepal by imposing a six- month- long blockade.

Four days before his Nepal visit, security has been beefed up in Kathmandu while as many as 41 Indian security personnel along with two bullet-proof cars (a Range Rover and BMW) landed at Tribhuvan International Airport on Tuesday.

This is PM Modi’s third visit for Nepal after becoming the 16th Prime Minister of India. For the first time, Modi came to Nepal on 3-4 August,2014, when Nepal was undergoing acute labor pain for promulgating a federal constitution. For the second time he visited Nepal on 26-27, November, 2014, on the occasion of the 18th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit.

A special security has been arranged for Modi this time, never seen before. Security has been beefed up in Kathmandu, Janakpur and Muktinath.

According to sources, more than 10,000 security personnel including Nepal Army, Armed Police Force (APF), Nepal Police and Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) will be deployed for the security of PM Modi under the command of Nepal Army.

 Nepalis have not forgotten the Indian blockade in 2015 that took place after the devastating earthquake that killed more than 10,000 and rendered tens of thousands of people homeless. 

The torture is still fresh in the minds of Nepali people which haunt them prior to Modi’s visit.

There is a fundamental difference between welcome and flattery. Flattery is insincere, unnatural and abnormal praise, not actually welcoming someone with pleasure in a natural manner. Unnatural circumstances created in the name of welcome. Damned !! #BlockadeWasCrimeMrModi
