NEPSE surges 78.31 points; daily turnover increases to Rs 8.16 billion

KATHMANDU, Sept 12: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Thursday surged 78.31 points to close at 2,688.53 points.


The secondary market opened at 2,610.21 points and plunged initially to the day’s low at 2,606.44 points in the first 17 minutes. The index however went to an upward movement and gained around 50 points, followed by a decline of 35 points again in the next two and a half hours. In the remaining one hour and 15 minutes, the market recovered around 67 points before it closed for the day.

The sensitive index, which measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies, added a notable 13.39 points. The daily turnover increased to Rs 8.16 billion from Rs 6.85 billion on Wednesday.


Among individual companies, 229 were recorded as gainers whereas only 12 were the losers.


Out of 13 groups, only the mutual fund lost 0.01 points. Of the gainers, life insurance posted the biggest addition of 441.27 points. A total of seven groups were the gainers of three-digit points.


CEDB Hydropower Development Company Limited had the largest turnover of its shares worth Rs 476.50 million. A total of five companies including Wean Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited, Green Ventures Limited, Upakar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited, Eastern Hydropower Limited and Rawa Energy Development Limited gained the largest of 10 percent of their market values. Three Star Hydropower Limited was recorded as the topmost loser.
